The University of Alberta has struck agreements to co-sponsor graduate students and foster collaboration in a wide range of subjects.
Sponsored students are international students whose education is fully supported by their governments, businesses, or third-party organizations.

Eligibility Criteria for the University of Alberta Scholarship 2024 Scholarship
To be considered for the Scholarships in Alberta, these are the eligibility criteria:
Master’s programs
Normally, applicants must have completed a four-year baccalaureate degree, or its academic equivalent, from a University of Alberta-accredited institution.
Admission requires a grade point average of 3 on most 4-point grading systems or a B on most letter grading systems based on your most recent two years of full-time study (or equivalent).
Doctoral programs
Typically, applicants must have earned a master’s degree or its academic equivalent from a University of Alberta-accredited institution.

Benefits of Scholarships in Alberta 2024
For Undergraduate programs
These grants are open to new first-year students participating in undergraduate degree programs who hold a valid Student Visa Permit. The scholarships, worth up to $9,000, are spread over four years.
For master’s programs
Master’s degree students will get a $17,500 stipend, with overseas candidates receiving an additional $10,000 to cover fees.
For Doctoral Programs
These $5,000 annual awards are meant to help PhD students finance their fees.

To apply for the Scholarships in Alberta, candidates must prepare to submit the following documents:

Alberta high school students can apply for scholarships and honors worth up to $6,000.
The following scholarships and awards are available to students enrolled in Alberta colleges or universities this year:
1. Academic Alexander Rutherford High School Achievement Scholarship.
Over 13,000 scholarships are offered to recognize and reward academic performance in high school and encourage individuals to seek postsecondary education.
The scholarship has a value of up to $2,500. Scholarships are provided to students who achieve a minimum average of 75.0 percent in five selected courses in at least one grade (Grade 10, 11, or 12).
The minimal average, award amount, and courses available are determined by the student’s high school graduation year. Recipients must be enrolled in a full-time postsecondary program or be apprentice students.
There are no application deadlines.
2. Grant MacEwan United World College Scholarship
Eight scholarships are provided for two years of study at a United World College. These honors are given based on academic performance, leadership, community service, references, and an interview. Applicants must be in the process of completing grade eleven.
Deadline: December 1
3. China-Alberta Award of Excellence in Chinese
A $500 reward will be given to a high school student who excels in Chinese language and cultural programs. Awarded based on academic achievement.
Deadline: April 30.
4. Tiessen Foundation’s Broadcast Scholarship
One $750 scholarship is available to Alberta high school graduates who want to pursue post-secondary studies at any recognized educational institution in Canada that provides a degree or diploma in broadcasting (TV, radio, or broadcast engineering). Awarded based on academic excellence and a 750-word essay.
Deadline: July 1.
5. The Anna and John Kolesar Memorial Scholarship
One $1,500 scholarship will be offered to the applicant who has the greatest average in three Grade 12 subjects.
Applicants must intend to enroll in an education program and come from a family in which neither parent holds a university degree.

6. Keyera Energy’s Peter J. Renton Memorial Scholarship
High school students who have completed the high school graduation requirements in Alberta can receive up to $6,000 ($3,000 for the first year and $3,000 for the second year).
Applicants must intend to study full-time at an eligible Alberta post-secondary institution in a field relevant to the oil and gas industry.
Deadline: May 1.
7. Adult High School Equivalence Scholarship
Students who have finished an upgrading program at an approved Alberta institution and have not attended high school for three years are eligible to apply for one of two $500 grants.
Given out by academic standing. Recipients must be enrolled full-time in a postsecondary program.
The recipients are nominated by the educational institution where they finished their upgrading program.
Deadline: September 1
8. Jo-Ann Koch ABC Society Awards.
Grade 12 high school graduates can receive two $500 awards: one for graduating from Westmount Charter School and one for graduating from any publicly funded Alberta high school.
Applicants must meet the criteria for giftedness as decided by their school jurisdiction and intend to pursue postsecondary education.

9. Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) Scholarship
Up to 500 $1,000 grants are offered to high school graduates who have completed the RAP program and are enrolled in an approved regular apprenticeship program.
Academic excellence, company recommendation, a recommendation letter from a high school teacher or counselor, and a personal essay are all used to select recipients.
Deadline: June 30.
10. Athletics Earl and Countess of Wessex: 2001 World Championships in Athletics Scholarship
This scholarship was established to celebrate the Earl and Countess of Wessex’s attendance at the 8th International Amateur Athletics Federation World Championships in Athletics, which were held in Edmonton in August 2001.
A $3,000 prize will be given to the best male and female Grade 12 track and field competitors. Applicants must meet academic standards and intend to pursue full-time tertiary education at the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, or the University of Lethbridge.
The recipients will be chosen based on their sporting achievements.
